Kia ora, we are Kate and Matt Wheeler, the tangata tiriti behind Tiriti Reo.
With a background in health and research we were inspired to create Tiriti Reo in order to help educate professionals (especially those in health) in Te Ao Māori.
With the obvious health inequalities between Māori and non-Māori, we have seen first hand and in studies how something as simple as a good patient-doctor relationship can have such a significant impact on health outcomes.
Our aspiration is to improve relationships by supporting learning cultural competency and safety through the medium of tō tātou reo rangatira - The Māori language! That way everyone feels a little safer, a little more comfortable and a little better understood.

Piwaiwaka - 1:1 Basic
$ 50 per lesson
A chatty little bird with this the hour is entirely yours! This is our essential, foundational service designed specifically for those who are operating on a budget. During the lesson, we dedicate the time to directly engage with you on the specific areas you wish to improve upon. It’s just a bit more streamlined, allowing for an efficient learning experience.
Instead of creating something bespoke just for you, we utilize our preformed presentations to teach effectively. Topics covered during the session can include key grammar points, pepeha, korero tuakiri, karakia, and strategies for leading hui.
The kupu | words and rerenga | sentences that we will cover are carefully selected to ensure that they are relevant and applicable to your unique workplace setting. This tailored approach enables you to confidently use these language skills in your day-to-day interactions.
Kereru - 1:1
$100 per lesson
A more solid bird that you can hear coming from a mile away! This is a one hour online one-on-one te reo Māori lesson. We work closely with you to ensure these lessons fit your unique self and learning style. Time is taken before and after so that lessons will be designed to build on the knowledge you already have. These are able to be incorporated with any learning you are already doing!
You will be able to guide what is taught in your lessons, and which areas you would like more support in (eg. Pepeha/kōrero tuakiri, karakia, leading a hui etc). These lessons are unique as they will also incorporate tikanga and culturally important ways of doing things that are applicable to your workplace.
Kupu | words and rerenga | sentences that will be used for learning grammar and sentence structure will be applicable to your workplace setting so that you are able to use them on a day to day basis.
$200 per lesson
Want to enhance the fun and share with those who you work with? Gather your flock amd with up to 4 people at a time you can get your workmates or department together and start to have a common set of rerenga | sentences and matauranga | knowledge so you can start talking immediately.
You will be able to guide what is taught in your lessons, and which areas you would like more support in (eg. Pepeha/kōrero tuakiri, karakia, leading a hui etc). These lessons are unique as they will also incorporate tikanga and culturally important ways of doing things that are applicable to your workplace.
